App Store revenue without RevenueCat: subscriptions, refunds, MRR

Connect an In-App Purchase key from App Store Connect and Sumly reads your app's subscriptions and purchases straight from Apple, next to your web revenue and your visitors.

What Sumly reads

  • Every customer Apple sent a notification about in the last 180 days, with all their purchases, also older ones
  • Each purchase, renewal and refund the moment Apple tells your notification address
  • Whether a subscription renews, is in billing retry or has ended
  • The country of each purchase, from the storefront

Good to know

  • Apple gives the price with tax, not what you receive. Sumly takes off the country's VAT and Apple's commission (15% or 30%), the way RevenueCat estimates it; App Store Connect's own reports stay the figure of record.
  • Apple sends notifications to one address. If RevenueCat already has it, connect RevenueCat instead.
  • Customers with no purchase or renewal in the last 180 days are not read.

Connect App Store in a few minutes

  1. 1In App Store Connect: Users and Access → Integrations → In-App Purchase → Generate In-App Purchase Key. Download the .p8 file (Apple gives it once) and note its Key ID and the Issuer ID.
  2. 2Paste the file's text with the Issuer ID, the Key ID and the app's bundle ID.
  3. 3Then put the address Sumly shows into App Store Connect as the app's notification address. Apple keeps 180 days of notifications; Sumly reads every customer named in them, with all their purchases.
  4. 4To trace purchases to visits, pass the SDK's visitor id as appAccountToken when a purchase starts.

Trace each payment to its visit

Pass the SDK's visitor id as appAccountToken when a purchase starts (product.purchase(options: [.appAccountToken(UUID(uuidString: Sumly.visitorID)!)])). Each payment then counts for the source and country of the visit that started it. How attribution works.

Questions

Is this the same as App Store Connect's sales report?

Close, not identical. Apple's reports know the exact proceeds; the Server API Sumly reads gives prices with tax, so Sumly estimates the tax and commission. Over a month the two usually differ by a few percent.

Which key does it need?

An In-App Purchase key (Users and Access, Integrations, In-App Purchase). It can read purchases and send nothing on your behalf.
