The month, packed for your accountant

On the 1st, Sumly makes last month's package from every provider you connect: payments by project and by country, EU or outside the EU, payouts to the bank, and a summary PDF. You look it over, and it goes to your accountant by mail.

Made-up numbers, packed the way Sumly packs a month.

One zip a month, per workspace

From Stripe, Paddle, Lemon Squeezy, Polar, Creem, RevenueCat and Google Play, the payments API and payments entered by hand. Here is a made-up studio's October; you choose which parts go in.

The breakdown your accountant asks for

Per project

Each project has its own files and, if you want, its own PDF, under the name you give it.

Per country, EU or not

Sales to end customers by the buyer's country, from the card, else the billing address, and added up for the EU and outside it.

Per provider

What you sold yourself kept apart from what an app store or merchant of record such as Paddle, Polar or Lemon Squeezy sold for you and charged the VAT on.

Payouts to the bank

Stripe payouts by the day they arrive, with gross sales, refunds and fees, to match the bank statement. Stores and merchants of record show what they paid out.

Stripe, as you export it

Stripe is read again for the month with your read-only key, so the CSV has the columns of Stripe's own export: created date, amount and currency, converted amount, status, card country, invoice number. Failed payments are in too, or only paid ones if you prefer, and you can list the columns in your own order, metadata included.

Invoice numbers need Invoices: Read on the key, and the payouts file Payouts: Read.

What is still missing

Stripe has no API for its Tax Invoices, so the package lists each one that is missing, with a link to where Stripe keeps it. Add the PDF on the page, or forward it to your workspace's invoices address (invoices+…@…): it lands in the right month and project by its number, and the zip is made again.

Until Google publishes its earnings report, the Google Play file is an estimate and is listed as missing too.

The mail to your accountant

The summary PDF and the zip go to one or more addresses, with the subject and text you write. Send it by hand when you have looked it over, or turn on sending and it goes on the 6th, once nothing is missing. Sending is off until you turn it on.

  • You hear on the 1st that it is ready, by email or Discord
  • Made again at any time, for the last 24 months

Subject: {company} – package for {month}

Hello, attached is the package for {month}: {contents} {missing} Kind regards, {name}

Filled in each month: what is in the package, what is still missing, the month, your name.

Questions about the monthly reports

Does Sumly work out or file my VAT?

No. It gives your accountant the month broken down by country, EU or outside the EU, and by provider. Working out VAT or OSS and filing it stays with your accountant.

Which providers go into the package?

Stripe, Paddle, Lemon Squeezy, Polar, Creem, RevenueCat and Google Play, plus payments sent to the payments API and the ones entered by hand. Stripe and Google Play are read again for the month, so their files match their own exports.

Can I make a package for a month before I joined?

Yes, for the last 24 months since your first payment. Stripe is read again for that month with your key, and the other providers come from the history Sumly read when you connected them.

Does my accountant need an account?

No. Only the owner of the workspace sees the page. The accountant gets the summary PDF and the zip by mail, at one or more addresses.

Which languages?

English or Slovenian, for the summary PDF and the mail.

Does anything go to my accountant without me?

Not until you turn it on. On the 1st you hear that the package is ready, by email or Discord. With sending on, it goes to your accountant on the 6th, and only once nothing is missing; otherwise you hear why it did not go.
