Import your OpenPanel history into Sumly

Switching from OpenPanel, cloud or self-hosted? Give Sumly a read-only client and it brings every page view and event as visits, as if its own script had counted them.

Drawn with example numbers.

Moved in three steps

A client that can only read, used once.

  1. 1

In OpenPanel, open the project's settings › Clients and make a client of type Read.

  2. 2

In Sumly, open Projects and payments › Import earlier history, pick the project and choose OpenPanel. Paste the project id, the client id and secret, and for a self-hosted OpenPanel its address.

  3. 3

The import runs in the background, a month at a time, and the page follows it.

What you see once it is in

OpenPanel next to every other project and provider, on the same pages.

Visitors, sessions, journeys, funnels and events reach back before the script, with sources, pages, places and devices.

Filters work on those days as on any other.

Overview

Revenue per 1,000 visitors and conversion for those months.

Counts toward your plan

Nothing: imported visits never count toward your plan. Plans →

What you don't get

No revenue attribution for imported visits, and no import of OpenPanel dashboards or profiles.

The details

What is read
  • Every page view and event, with its time, page, referrer and utm tags
  • Each visit's country, region, city, device, browser and system
  • Up to 25 months back, as long as Sumly keeps visits
How it is read
  • Through OpenPanel's export API, 1,000 events a request, with the client you give.
  • Only the days before Sumly's own script, and never a day Sumly already has.
  • The client secret is kept encrypted while the import runs and deleted when it is done.
Good to know
  • The people are OpenPanel's: the same person before and after Sumly's script counts as two.
  • Payments are not traced to imported visits, as no checkout carried them.

OpenPanel questions

Does it work with a self-hosted OpenPanel?

Yes. Give its address, the one you open the dashboard at; Sumly reads its API under /api.

Can I undo the import?

Yes. Import history lists each import with Remove, which takes out the visits it brought and leaves Sumly's own alone.

Why a client of type Read?

It can only read, so it cannot change anything in OpenPanel. A Root client works too.
