Where Pirsch is the better choice

Pirsch suits a site owner or agency that wants simple, cookie-free web analytics hosted in Germany, often under its own brand for clients, and is happy to send sales as events.

  • Data hosted in Germany, and tracking without any cookies.
  • A lower first price, from $6 a month, with unlimited team members and data kept without limit on every plan.
  • White labeling, custom themes and domains, and A/B testing on Plus.
  • Imports from Google Analytics, Plausible and Fathom, and self-hosting with an Enterprise license.

Where Sumly fits

Sumly suits a founder who wants revenue read from the billing system and the app stores, with renewals, refunds and churn counted, and the visits that brought each buyer beside it.

  • You sell subscriptions and want MRR, churn, refunds and fees read from your billing, not sent from your site as events.
  • Some of your revenue comes from the App Store or Google Play.
  • You want ad and creator costs set against what the people they brought have paid.

Trying Sumly next to Pirsch

You do not have to choose on the first day. The two scripts can run on the same pages, and a few weeks of both is the fair way to judge.

Sumly has no import of past visits from Pirsch or any other analytics tool, so its visitor history starts the day the script is added. Revenue history does not wait: it is read from your billing, up to three years back.

  1. 1Create a project in Sumly and add its one script tag next to Pirsch's.
  2. 2In the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, call sumly.consent(true) once the visitor agrees. Until then Sumly counts without a cookie.
  3. 3If you use events for funnels, send them with sumly.track('signup', { plan: 'pro' }).
  4. 4Connect your payment provider with a key that can only read, where the provider offers one.
  5. 5For a checkout made in your own code, pass sumly_visitor_id in its metadata, so each payment is traced to the visit that started it.

Visitor numbers in two tools rarely match exactly. Each decides in its own way what counts as a bot or a new visitor. Look at whether the trends agree.

Sumly and Pirsch: questions

Does Pirsch show revenue?

Yes, as events. Its docs show sending a sale event with an amount and currency from your site, then adding it to a goal as a custom metric, which needs Pirsch Plus. Its Shopify pixel sends purchases the same way. It does not read a payment provider, so a renewal or refund counts only when your code sends it. Sumly reads them from the payment provider.

Is Sumly as private as Pirsch?

Sumly uses no third-party cookies and stores no IP address. In the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland it sets no cookie until the visitor agrees, and counts without one until then. Raw visits are kept 25 months. Pirsch uses no cookies at all, never stores the IP address and hosts its data in Germany.

Can I host Sumly myself?

No. Sumly is a hosted service and is not open source. Pirsch offers self-hosting with an Enterprise license, and its core library is open source under the AGPL.

Does Sumly import my Pirsch history?

No. Visitor history in Sumly starts when its script is added. Your revenue history is read from your billing provider, so that part is full from the first day.

Can I run both scripts?

Yes. They do not interfere with each other, and running both for a while is the easiest way to compare.

What does each cost?

Sumly is $9 a month on Starter and from $19 on Growth, with a 14-day trial and no card. Pirsch starts at $6 a month for 10,000 page views and Plus at $12, with a 30-day trial and no card, according to its site on 6 November 2026. Its trial ends early if you pass 100,000 page views.
